“Retired and Refired

There is something wonderful about being Retired, and Refired! I'm both.

I have never had a dull day in retirement. Also, I have been Refired - I have a new sense of being "fired up." Being refired brings lots of energy for doing exciting things. I enjoy having the time and energy to specialize in simple things that will bring joy, and will help all people, everywhere, all of the time. Since I refired, I am doing this in new and wonderful ways.

Examples:

Goal: Attacking the problem of illiteracy, worldwide.

Writing a New Dictionary of the English Language:
One of my most exciting challenges, ever, is my current project. I have begun writing a Dictionary of the English Language. I have completed only seventy-two words, but that is a beginning. It will be

  • Unabridged
  • Totally new
  • Complete
  • Non-classical
  • Alphabetical
  • Sophisticated and
  • Aromatic

No body has worked on this but me-it is unabridged.
No one has ever written a dictionary like this one-totally new.
The first seventy-two words are finished-complete.
It will be classy-but non-classical.
For easy reference-alphabetical.
Known only by people like you - sophisticated.
Since we usually have to get down real close to read a dictionary, I think it ought to smell good - aromatic.

This will be a quality book-in fact, I am calling it a
Revised Standard Version Dictionary of the English Language

Note: I have used fifty-four of these words in my book, Spirits Laughing. With so few words left for me to use, my next book may have to be a book of short stories.

Goal: Affordable vacations for everyone!

A Mountain and a Lake:
I am truly excited about these. Can't wait. To accomplish "a mountain and a lake" I have enlisted the help of a wealthy, Texas, oil man (a "three-in-one" type was required) to pull this off. Since he has oil operations in Venezuela, he will be flying over some mountains and lakes. He is going to pick out a mountain and name it for me. Then he will write my name next to it on a map and send it to me: "Mt. Danny." It has a certain ring to it, don't you think?

On this Web site I will be publishing the map location-including latitude and longitude-so you can locate it for yourself. Don't get carried away, though, and start trying to book a vacation to "Mt. Danny". It will take awhile to get the roads in up to the top of the mountain. Of course, the most beautiful view will be from the tip-top of this particular mountain.

My "three-in-one" friend will also select a lake in Venezuela to name "Lake Danny." This is so exciting, because I just love the water!

Knowing him as I do, I am confident he will select a beautiful lake that will be a delight to you. The fishing will be great! Plenty of room for water skiing, lots of almost private swimming places, and there will be wonderful restaurants. All of this will be very affordable and comfortable. I think you will really love being there. But wait until we get the hotel built. Or you may prefer the little bungalows when they are completed.

Again, I will be listing the map showing the exact locations in Venezuela so you will have no doubt about how to find it.

I have requested that my friend try to select a mountain and a lake that are close enough together so you can visit both "Mt. Danny" and "Lake Danny" on the same trip. What a knock-out vacation!

A Personal Note: I have been wanting a lake and a mountain named for me all of my life-or at least the last two weeks. This is a dream-come-true. Think about these two new resort developments. Because it is so far to Venezuela, I have made pictures at a near-by lake and a fairly close mountain. The pictures above are symbolic enactments of the naming of the lake and the mountain in Venezuela. These pictures were actually taken in North Carolina for you by the noted Environmentalist, Dr. McGregor Smith, Ph.D.

I hope these pictures bring you lots and lots of joy!

Goal: Initials that can be used by everyone.

Initials as a Trade Mark:

It took awhile, but I finally got my initials registered as a U.S. Trademark. You might want to clip this from the page and put it in your billfold for safe-keeping, in case you ever need to use my initials for something.

Goal: Making the World a Friendlier Place

Hospitality Technician:
With so much free time and so much energy, I decided to get a job as a Hospitality Technician at our local Walmart.  After checking into it, I decided to upgrade and went to a Walmart Super Center.  It's all the way across town, but I feel that I am equipped to work in a Super Center.

The training has been rigorous: I have had to learn to do four things all at once:

  • smile;
  • raise my voice a complete octave;
  • say, "Welcome to Walmart, Welcome to Walmart";
  • give a big hug if I know the person.

The trick is to concentrate to get all four done real smooth, as if the four were one motion. The challenge is to do all four at the same time you are trying to decide if you know the person and will give them a big hug, or just go on and give them a hug and run the risk of getting slapped if you don't know the person after all.

One of the things I am good at is pointing people in the right direction in the store. If someone asks me where something is, I point my whole arm while holding my palm down and all five of my fingers extended wide open. I say, "You will find that right over there." My five fingers give them five different directions to choose, which they seem to appreciate!

The one thing I am not completely qualified on yet is putting "smiley face" stickers on people after they are greeted. It's okay, if it's a man, but you have to be really careful where you put a sticker on a woman. I hope to soon be checked out on that.

Goal: Understanding the mystery of love.

Definition of Love:
This is the really biggie. Everyone has been trying to define love: poets, bards, politicians, hairdressers, philosophers, crooners, preachers, scholastics, humorists, pundits, and free-thinkers of every stripe.

Ever since I became retired and refired, I have had lots of time to devote to this question. Once and for all, here is my definition of love:

"Love is a funny lookin' thing
Shaped like a blossom;
If you want your finger bitten,
Stick it to a possum."

That says it all, doesn't it?

If you ever get to feeling low, come back here to review these items and you will find yourself uplifted. Maybe some of my refirement will rub off on you.  Whatever you do, please don't forget the most important thing I have ever told you!

Rock on,

Danny, probably
(No doubt!)
